Emily “Alice” (Shearer) Whitney, daughter of Walter A. and Ella B (Betts) Shearer, was born on April 4, 1928, in Stockton, Kansas, and passed away on January 21, 2026, at the Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas, at the age of 97.
Alice attended Phillipsburg Grade School and graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1946. She was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church in Phillipsburg. Alice married Keith Matthew Whitney on June 22, 1947. They had two daughters, Vickie and Carol.
Alice was a homemaker and lived in Phillipsburg for 90 years. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, playing canasta with friends, attending Kansas State University football games, and traveling to visit family.
Alice was very active in the community. She volunteered at the United Methodist Church Thrift Store, was a member of the UMW, the VFW auxiliary, and the Modern Study Club.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Keith, her sisters Norma Mason, June Weaver, and Ethel Shearer.
Alice survived by her daughters Vickie Artis (Dave) of Naperville, IL and Carol Stoltz (Jim) of Wichita, KS; Grandchildren Brad Artis (Michelle), Heather Chura (Joe), Hayley Collings (Brandon) all from Illinois, Matthew Stoltz, Wichita, Mark Stoltz (Corri) Kansas City, MO, Emily Stoltz, Wichita and Sarah Reinhardt (Zach), Overland Park, KS. Great Grandchildren: Austin Artis, Dylan Artis, Deacon Artis, Morgan Chura, Greyson Chura, Blake Collings, Whitney Collings, Charlotte Stoltz, Louis Stoltz, and Henry Reinhardt; and a brother, Walter Shearer of Chino, CA.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 31, 2026 at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Darlene Sheffer officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.
Friends may sign the book from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg. Alice wished for her casket to remain closed.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas State University Johnson Cancer Research Center c/o the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.
