Obituary

Alicia was born November 18, 1982 to Michael Sanson and Tracy Hodge Sanson in McCook, Nebraska. She passed away on February 22, 2010 in Clay Center, KS at the age of 27.

She has one older brother, Benjamin who resides in Denver, Colorado.
Alicia lived her preschool years in McCook, Nebraska and Gainsville Texas. Alicia's family moved to Bogue, Kansas where Alicia began kindergarten. The family then lived in Hill City until they settled in Phillipsburg Kansas in 1996 when Alicia was in 8th Grade. In junior high she participated in cheerleading and also enjoyed playing basketball, golf, and volleyball in her high school years. She was more of an academic student and went on in later years to participate in debate, yearbook, and journalism.

The summer of 2000, Alicia was invited to spend the summer with her friend Marta Costa, foreign exchange student, in Valencia Spain. Alicia later returned to Spain as a college student at the university of Granada in the KU reciprocal program. She graduated from KU in 2006 with a dual major in Political Science and Foreign Relations and a minor in History.

Alicia's freshman year of college she was elected president of GSP Corbin women's dorm and was involved for 4 years as a resident assistant and and actively participated in hall government.

Alicia was everyone's friend. She was loyal, sweet, and always had a smile and words of encouragement for all those she cared about and loved. She enjoyed spending time with her classmates and friends from high school and also had close ties with her friends from college. She loved lively discussions and looking at things from multiple perspectives. She had a really big heart and continually advocated for those in need whether that be a child, a victim of domestic abuse, or anyone needing a friend. She was outspoken in defending what she believed was right.

Alicia's best friend and supporter in her adult life is Shane Culbertson. The depth of their friendship is so unique and special that only they understood. They spent hours watching movies and driving around while listening to music. They shared a passion for shopping at thrift shop finding t-shirts and jackets that were unique to them and her eclectic nature. Thank you Shane, we love you.

For fun, Alicia enjoyed reading, more reading, listening to music, traveling, and playing cards with friends and family......especially Cribbage with her grandparents, Willis and Sharon Hodge when she was in town. A trip back would also include spending time with Grandma Vada and Grandpa Jerry Kessler in Logan. Grandma Vada always had words of encouragement and homemade cookies, that Alicia loved. During the summer she enjoyed spending time at the Lake with her Mom, and Kerry.

Alicia was especially close to her brother, Ben, and his daughter, Skylar. Skylar and her "Aunt Lic" had a very special relationship. Skylar says her Aunt Lic was sweet, fun, and always spoiled her. Skylar asked Grandma Tracy if they could keep Aunt Lic's cat, Scout, at Grandma Tracy's. Scout Is Skylar's cat now for her to spoil and love.

In the last year Alicia resided in Clay Center and was able to spend time with her Dad and Doctor Lew Ann where they enjoyed watching TV and some fun contention with their rivalry in KU and K State sports.

Alicia began employment in the spring of 2009 at Garfield School in clay Center where she discovered a passion as a paraprofessional working with special needs students.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Glen Sanson; two aunts, Sherie Dougherty and Bonnie Spangler and her cousin Zachary Dougherty.
