Allen Edward Simmons was born to Albert and Marie Isabelle (Cox) Simmons on August 14, 1947 in Phillipsburg, Kansas. He departed this life September 11, 2022 in Kearney, Nebraska. Allen was the only child of seven children to be born in the hospital. He believed that made him special. When he was seven years old, his family moved from Glade, Kansas to Phillipsburg, Kansas. He was to call Phillipsburg home for the rest of his life.
Allen attended grade school and high school in Phillipsburg, then went on to North Central Kansas Vo-Tech School in Beloit, Kansas. After spending two years in the Navy, Allen returned to Phillipsburg to begin his work career. First working with brother Raymond draying freight. He then owned his own glass shop, and worked in construction. His last employment was with the Phillipsburg School District as a janitor, which he loved.
Allen loved his family, being the caregiver of several family members. He attended both Glade and Phillipsburg United Methodist Churches, and thoroughly enjoyed a Bible Study with friends and pastor in Phillipsburg. Allen enjoyed fishing, golfing, reading, and coyote hunting in earlier years.
Survivors include brothers Raymond Simmons of Great Bend, Kansas, and Bob Simmonds and wife Jo Ann of Goodland, Kansas, and sister Eleanor Simmons of Phillipsburg, Kansas, and Niece Mary Feemster and husband Frank of Ellinwood, Kansas.
Cremation was planned. A graveside service officiated by Pastor Becky Saddler will be held Saturday, September 24, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. in the Marvin Cemetery, Glade, Kansas.
Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church or the Phillipsburg City Library.
