Obituary

Arland D. "Ike" Barnes, son of Harold D. and Alma J. (Underwood) Barnes, was born November 26, 1940 in Phillipsburg, KS, and passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, KS at the age of 74.

Arland attended school in Gretna and Agra. After finishing 8th grade he helped on the family's farm.

He loved the outdoors – especially hunting squirrels. He had a passion for art and had created quite a collection of drawings over the years, always taking great care with the details. Arland also learned how to "tan" hides, using the leather to make all kinds of unique items. However, his greatest passion in life was his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, which he took pride in owning and riding and often entered in parades.

Arland was a member of the Church of Christ in Agra, KS, having been baptized on October 10, 1989.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Delbert; and two nephews – Dennis and Monte Barnes.

Survivors include his brother, Merle & wife, Lela, of Agra, KS; his sister-in-law, Mary Barnes, of Phillipsburg, KS; his nephews, Merlin Barnes & wife, Lil, of Olathe, KS; Derbin Barnes & wife, Sue, of Phillipsburg, KS; and Mick Barnes & wife, Janet, of Agra, KS; his niece, Linda Dougherty & husband, Daryl, also of Agra; 20 great-nephews and great-nieces; 15 great-great-nieces & nephews, as well as several cousins.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 26, at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Robert Keesee officiating. Burial will follow in the Agra Cemetery, Agra, KS.

Friends may sign the book on Sunday, May 24, from noon – 9 p.m. with the family greeting friends on Monday, May 25, from 3-5 p.m. at the funeral home. The casket will remain closed.
