Obituary

Former Phillipsburg resident, Arlene Childs of Logan, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, Kansas, at the age of 91.
Arlene was born September 9, 1920, in Menlo, Kansas. She was the sixth of eight children born to Claudie H. and Laura Alice (Webb) Mallory. She attended school in Gem, Kansas, until her family moved to Lincoln County, Colorado, where she graduated in 1938.
The family moved back to Gem, Kansas in 1938. She worked in Colby, Kansas, for a few years before moving to Denver, Colorado, in 1944 to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone.
Arlene met Cleon Childs at a school carnival in Gem, Kansas. They were married August 31, 1947. It was a match made in heaven, as they had a very special marriage for 63 years, until Cleon's death July 8, 2011.
After they were married, they lived in Denver until moving to Menlo, Kansas, in 1948. They moved to Rexford, Kansas, in 1957, then to Phillipsburg, Kansas, in 1963. Arlene worked for McQueen Jewelry from 1963 to 1966. She then went to work for North Kansas Savings, where she became Branch Manager until she retired in 1980.
Following retirement, Arlene enjoyed her rose garden, crocheting and traveling with Cleon to family gatherings. Her favorite time was spent playing cards, dominos, and other games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to attend all of their sporting events and other activities. She was always there to love and support them.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cleon; three brothers, Norris, Ray, and Gordon Mallory; four sisters, Cleo and Pauline Mallory, Edythe Gunderson, and Joyce Miller; one sister-in-law, Evelyn McCrary, and one brother-in-law, Clifford Fiala.

"Mick" Childs and his wife Alayne of Abilene; her daughter Laura "Lea" Zillinger and her husband Phil of Logan; three grandchildren, Mandy Goble and her husband Steve and Anna and Amy Zillinger all of Logan; two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Dawson Goble of Logan; three step-grandchildren, Jason Clark and his wife Jenny of Princeton, Texas, Ashley Dick and her husband Adam of Hutchinson, and Jeff Schultz of Abilene; four step-great grandchildren, Elise Dick of Hutchinson, Trevor Schmidt of Hays, and Audrey and Madison Clark of Princeton, Texas; one brother-in-law, Gerald Childs and his wife Carlene of Olathe, and two sisters-in-law, Beverly Maris and her husband Harold of Wauneta, Nebraska, and Clois Ann Fiala of Colorado Springs.
