Arleta Jean Power, daughter of Milton & Mary (Taylor) Keeten, was born March 20, 1929 in Concordia, Kansas and passed away March 8, 2017 in Morristown, Tennessee at the age of 87.
Arleta grew up on a small farm southeast of Glade and was the youngest of eleven children. She attended Phillipsburg High School and was crowned Homecoming Queen her Senior year. After graduating with the class of 1947, she began her administrative duties working as the school's secretary.
On September 24, 1950, Arleta was united in marriage to William Dean Power in Phillipsburg, Kansas. Their union was blessed with three children: Mark, Kirk and BuJean.
In addition to being a wife and mother, Arleta continued her secretarial career at the United Methodist Church in Phillipsburg, serving 24 years as administrative assistant through five pastors. She enjoyed her work at the church as well as cooking and serving meals with the United Methodist Women. The women's group made thousands of noodles over the years and Arleta cherished the fellowship and fun that they shared.
Some of her greatest joys were traveling with her husband, Bill, in the RV to see their children, to whatever locations their military careers might have taken them. She and Bill loved square dancing together at their winter campground in Arizona, and each year Arleta looked forward to participating in the "Relay for Life" walk. She also loved to cook for all of her family, and was known for her delicious cinnamon rolls and biscotti.
Her parents, husband, Bill, and son, Kirk, preceded her in death, along with nine brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her son, Mark Power & wife, Linda, of Newport, TN; her daughter, BuJean Jenkins & husband, Jerry, of Dandridge, TN; one sister, Bettie Bach of Hugoton, KS; two grandchildren, Summer and Joshua Power; two step grandchildren, Joe and Leigh Jenkins; one great-grandson, Chase Power; and three step great-grandchildren - Caleb, Courtney and Cody Jenkins.
