Bernice Louise (Haskett) Werner daughter of Erl Eli and Theresa Pauline (Schulke) Haskett was born May 3, 1932 in the family farm home, in North Eastern Phillips County Kansas. Mrs. Werner passed away Saturday, September 7, 2024.
Bernice "Bernus" had eight siblings Cecil Erl, Edwin Joseph, Paul Everett, Evea Lucille, Mary Pauline, Donald Mirvin, Noma Mae and Betty June. Bernus loved the outdoors and was a constant tag along of her dad and big brother Cecil. She graduated high school with the Phillipsburg class of 1949. She was baptized in the Agra Lake on October 27, 1946, by Wilford Landes. She was part of the Agra Church of Christ Congregation and served the Lord faithfully and "she hath done what she could."
In the summer of 1947, she met and fell in love with a young man by the name of Robert "Bob" Warren Werner. They were married September 18, 1949, in the Christian Church Parsonage in Kensington Kansas. Bob was a good, kind and loving husband and father who provided for Bernus and their children. Bob passed away on April 17, 2006.
Bob and Bernus had three beautiful children two sons and a daughter, John Erl, Beth Kathleen, and Bruce Fredrick.
Bernus was strong, determined and financially disciplined. She made wise financial decisions until the end. Being an independent woman, she continued to be involved in her own health decisions and spent the last several weeks working hard in physical therapy which allowed her to spend her last few weeks at home. She was a devout Christian attending church services and bible study throughout her life.
Bernus was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband and eldest son. She is survived by her daughter Beth of Phillipsburg; her son Bruce and wife Judy of Orleans; daughter-in-law Barb of Phillipsburg; 6 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 7 step great grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wed. September 11, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jay Brandon officiating. Burial will follow in the Kirwin Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sun Porch or the American Heart Assoc.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 Monday & 9:00 to 9:00 Tuesday at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 7:00 Tuesday evening.
