Bert
Mongeau
July 2, 1950 – April 3, 2026
Albert (Bert) Joseph Mongeau was born in Stockton, KS on July 2, 1950. He passed away on April 3, 2026 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska surrounded by his loved ones who will keep his spirit alive.
Bert graduated from Palco High School. While completing school, he worked simultaneously at the Zurich Coop. He also helped out a farmer putting up hay. A few years later his father-in-law, at the time, asked him to run the concrete portion of B&B Redimix, where he later became an owner. Bert’s impact is cemented in many of our local communities and surrounding areas; from the sidewalks we walk upon, to the roads we travel on, to the foundations of our forever homes. Bert’s hands have been involved in numerous projects that include churches, businesses, schools, museums, swimming pools, the fire station and more. Bert built a legacy in his 50+ years with the company and led at B&B up until his passing.
Husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, friend: These are many of the titles Bert carried with him throughout his life. Not only was he a father to his children, he was also a foster parent for several years and a father figure to many of his children’s friends.
Bert met the love of his life, Dee, at a singles dance held at the American Legion in Agra, KS in 1986. They were united in marriage on January 30, 1988 at the Catholic Church in Phillipsburg, KS.
Bert was a tremendous leader and teacher for anybody he had crossed paths with. He was a hard worker, driven, committed and passionate, with a heart of gold. He cared endlessly for his family and friends and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. Bert loved his animals, most recently his best friend, Hank, as well as cattle, farming, hunting and fishing. He has spent an infinite amount of time nursing or caring for animals at all hours of the night, never leaving the sick or injured to suffer alone and his loved ones were sure to carry that forward for him at the end of his life. Although we hope this helps paint a picture of the man we all knew and loved, there’s no way for those closest to him to fully articulate what a significant influence he was on others.
Bert is survived by his children Kristy and husband Danny of Stuttgart, KS; Nathan and wife Kelly of Conroe, TX; daughter Jodie and husband Ryan of Glade, KS; son Shane and wife Hannah of Glade, KS; sister Deanna and husband Gary of Hays, KS; brother Ronnie of Zurich, KS; brother Marty and wife Carol of Stockton, KS; 8 grandchildren, Jeremiah, Katy, Allison, Trevor, Morgan, Quinley, Ella and Knox and 1 grandchild on the way. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dee; parents, Alcid and Ella Mongeau, infant sister Albertine, and brother Allen.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at the SS Philip and James Catholic Church, in Phillipsburg, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg, Kansas.
Bert will lie in state on Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with a rosary recitation on Thursday evening beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by a visitation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, in Phillipsburg, Kansas.
