Betty Ann (Westbrook) Jackson Brown, second of five children born to Birdis & Essie (Hostutler) Westbrook, was born August 23, 1931 on the family farm east of Kirwin, Kansas. She passed away March 2, 2015 at the Logan Manor in Logan, Kansas at the age of 83 years, 6 months, and 9 days.
Betty attended school in Kirwin, graduating from high school in 1949.
She married Wilbur Jackson on August 27, 1949 in Kirwin. To this union two sons were born – Rodney and Roger. Betty and Wilbur started their married life in Naponee, Nebraska and soon moved to Phillipsburg, Kansas, where Betty worked at several odd jobs while being a devoted mother and wife.
In 1965 she went to work in the Phillips County Clerk's office where she became the Deputy Clerk. In 1974 Betty began her employment with K N Energy, Inc, where she worked until her retirement in 1994.
Her husband, Wilbur, passed away in 1972, leaving Betty to finish raising their sons.
In 1982 Betty married Lee Brown, Jr. After their mutual retirements Betty & Lee enjoyed many activities together, spending many hours fishing, traveling, camping, and visiting with friends. Lee passed away in March, 2002.
Betty was an active member of the Phillips County Hospital Auxiliary, the Fred Marran American Legion Auxiliary of Kensington, and the First Christian Church of Phillipsburg. She spent many hours helping with, as well as participating in, the Relay for Life and Walking Kansas, was a member of the local line dance team, "Young At Heart," and helped with the Hospice fundraiser every year.
Betty was a natural "caregiver"; there was nothing she wouldn't do to help her children, stepchildren or friends. She loved to spend time with her family, loved going for morning coffee to visit with friends, and was an avid walker. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
