Obituary

Betty June Haskett was born July 17, 1937 the youngest child to Erl E. & Theresa (Schulke) Haskett in Northern Glenwood Township, Phillips County, Kansas. She passed away on Monday, December 30, 2013 at the Deseret Health & Rehabilitation Center in Kensington, KS at the age of 76.

She grew up on the family farm and attended school at the "CROW" school district #79 through the eighth grade. When it was time to attend high school, Betty moved into Phillipsburg and lived with her sister, Noma and her family. She graduated from the Phillipsburg High School with the class of 1955.

The Lord meant a great deal to her and she regularly attended church services when her health permitted it. She was baptized on June 3, 1956 by Leon H. Clark and was added to the Agra Church of Christ Congregation.

Betty was a hard worker. She started cleaning homes and helping new mothers, she then worked at the Phillips County Hospital as a nurse's aide for a short time. She then went to work at the First National Bank in Phillipsburg, where she enjoyed working for over 30 years.

She enjoyed traveling, especially in her blue Mustang, often taking trips to Denver to visit a sister and to do a little clothes shopping. She loved to sing, play piano, watch the Miss America Pageant, going to the drive-in theater, listening to music and the Grand Old Opry. She could often be found on Halloween dressed as Minnie Pearl. She enjoyed a good laugh; she always shared the joke of the day, and would send a card every St. Patrick's Day to friends and family.

Betty helped tend to her mother following a broken hip in 1972. She cared for her until her death in 1978.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 4 brothers, Cecil Erl, Edwin Joseph, Paul Everett & Donald Mirvin; and 2 sisters, Evea Lucille Looney and Mary Pauline Claar.

Survivors include her 2 sisters, Noma Mae Keesee and Bernice Louise Werner, both of Phillipsburg and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, 1115 2nd Street, Phillipsburg, KS 67661 with Tony Keesee officiating. Burial will follow in the Agra Cemetery, Agra, KS.

Miss Haskett will lie in state from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and until service time Saturday at the funeral chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Christ, Phillipsburg.
