Obituary

William Wesley (Bill) Duncan was born March 10, 1931 in Lanark Township, Rooks County, KS to Gail John & Lela Mae (McLaughlin) Duncan. He passed away on September 21, 2010 at the Logan Manor in Logan, KS at the age of 79.

Bill attended grade school in the country and graduated from Stockton High School with the class of 1949.

On November 21, 1952, he was united in marriage to Charlene Joyce Bretton and to this union two sons were born, Dennis Duane and Charles John. Bill & Charlene lived in Rooks County for one year. The couple then moved to a farm south of Speed, then to a farm north of Speed where they resided for the rest of the time except for the 5 years they lived in Phillipsburg.

Bill served on the A.S.C.S. board, the Speed High School board and the Logan Farmer's Union Elevator board.

He was a farmer at heart and took great pride in his farming & cattle. Bill loved to hunt and fish, and especially enjoyed turkey hunting with his grandsons.

Bill & Charlene took their camper to the State Fair in Hutchinson for many years. It was there that they met their good friends, Virgil & Mary Adkins.

Bill was proud that he got to dance with his granddaughter, Samantha, at her graduation from college and also at her wedding.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Gail Duane and Jackie Joel; his sister, Norma Mae Van Vleet; and his grandson-in-law, John Green.

Survivors include his wife, Charlene, of the home; two sons, Dennis & wife, Idona, of Stockton and Charles & wife, Wanda, of Phillipsburg; his sister, Phyllis Shearer & husband, Don, of Grinnell, IA; his grandchildren: Duane Duncan & wife, Sarah of Yuma, CO; David Duncan & wife, Becca of Tonganoxie, KS; Charlie Duncan, Samantha Green and Jake Duncan, all of Phillipsburg; his great-grandchildren: Luca, Devon, Elaina, Jack, Cassie, Billy & Addison; his brother-in-law, Bill Van Vleet of Platte City, MO; as well as numerous nieces & nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 25 at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating. Burial will follow in the Belmont Cemetery, Speed, KS.

Visitation will be from 9:00 to 9:00 Thursday & Friday at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Friday evening.
