Obituary

Bill Vanderplas, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 88.  Born on March 15, 1936, in Sheldon, Iowa, Bill was the son of William and Fannye (Kats) Vanderplas.  He graduated from Long Island High School in 1954.  He was an active member of the Luctor Christian Reformed Church.

Bill was a huge fan of sports, especially when his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren played.  He was a proud supporter of their athletic achievements, often seen cheering them on from the bleachers where his enthusiasm and pride were evident to all.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; son Jeff and wife Kelly; daughter Stacye and husband Terry Redinger all of Phillipsburg; daughter Sallye and husband Sean Lee of Omaha, Nebraska and sister, Valeri Mork and husband Ron of McPherson, Kansas.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Twyla McDowell.

Bill's family and his work were the cornerstone of his life.  He will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to both, his strong faith, and the love he shared with those around him.  His legacy will continue through his family, friends, business, and the many lives he touched throughout his years.

Bill will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
