Obituary

Robert Lee Eakin, Jr., also known as "Bob" by family and friends, age 60, was a long-time resident of Kirwin, KS. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who left this earth far too soon. Bob passed away June 3, 2019 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE.

Bob was born in Beloit, KS on March 13, 1959, while his mother, Betty, was staying with her parents in Beloit during his dad's deployment overseas. His family then lived in San Diego, CA from 1956 to 1976. Later in life Bob shared many stories of his love for surfing and sailing boats due to his time spent in California; he always dreamt of owning his own boat someday.

His family moved to Downs, KS in 1976, where Bob graduated from high school with the class of 1978. His employment over the years consisted of Becker Manufacturing in Downs, KS, Schultz Homes in Plainville, KS, and Osborne Industries, Inc. in Osborne, KS. After that he was employed by Tamko Roofing Products in Phillipsburg, KS, where he worked for the last 19 years of his life.

Bob was a devoted family man who enjoyed spending time with loved ones during the holidays, especially at Christmas, which was his favorite time of the year. Bob diligently assembled an unforgettable Christmas display every year, which dazzled onlookers with his Christmas spirit! This was a great joy for Bob as he looked forward to doing this each year for his grandkids. Other special times of the year included the annual family 4 th of July picnic, with him being at the grill and then setting off fireworks, and in October, a special trip to the pumpkin patch in Glenvil, NE. Family time meant the world to Bob.

His other great passions were his sports cars and motorcycles. He never seemed to outgrow his love for these, and was always so proud of his latest car purchase. He & June had many fond memories of "getting away" to go gambling at their favorite casinos. June would win. . .and Bob would want to share her winnings! He always laughed about how lucky she was at the casinos.

Above all else, Bob was an extremely caring person who went above and beyond for all his family. He could always be counted on to step in during anyone's time of need. We were blessed to have him in our lives and he will be missed dearly by family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Eric Lee Eakin, and his parents, Bob & Betty Eakin.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, June Eakin, of Kirwin, KS; his children: Connie (Eric) Sivertsen of Manhattan, KS; Ryan (Amy) Eakin of Colorado Springs, CO; Teresa (John) Starkey, Lisa (Frank) Hall, and Curtis Bretton, all of Kirwin; 10 grandchildren: Gavin Rothenberger, Tiana (Travis) Leikam, Sage Rothenberger, Warrick and Brodie Eakin, Tina (Jason) Gregory, Kenneth (Melissia) Morgan, Samantha Hall, and Falon and Rylee Bretton; and 4 great-grandchildren: Benjamin Leikam, Damien and Aria Gregory, and Noah Morgan. He also leaves two sisters, Roberta (Danny) Jackson of Colorado Springs, CO and Sandra (Donald) VanWey of Plainville, KS; his brother, George (Sherri) Eakin of Osborne, KS; two brothers-in-law: Vernon (Becky) Roth, Jr. of Kirwin and Rollin (Debra) Roth of Cawker City, KS; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
