Obituary

Brad Jay Horn, age 51, of Hays, KS, passed away early Thursday morning January 11, 2018 at the Hays Medical Center surrounded by family.
Brad was born on February 12, 1966, in Phillipsburg, KS, to Robert and Ardith (Rogers) Horn. He graduated from Phillipsburg High School with the class of 1984 and was united in marriage on November 24, 1990, to Kelly Ann Herold. To this marriage, one son, Brody Kain Horn, and one daughter, Kaylee Belle Horn, were born.
Brad was a hardworking man who took immense pride in being able to support his family, and he dreamed of owning a big home so he could surround himself with his many loved ones. After committing 25 years to TAMKO Building Products in both Phillipsburg and Columbus, KS, Brad and Kelly embarked on a new business venture together. In 2012, the pair took over as executive directors of Sunshine Connections, Inc., in Hays where they worked to sponsor the Child and Adult Care Food Program for daycare providers. Brad thoroughly enjoyed the freedom of being his own boss.
Brad had a passion for many activities, but one of his favorites was watching sports of all kinds, whether by phone or in his "man cave," with his best buddy since kindergarten, Kelly Williams. He loved rooting for his favorite teams – the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, KU, and K-State. He also loved fishing, hunting, gardening, watching NASCAR, and making the best jerky and salsa.
Brad believed he had the answers to all the world's problems, and he would often talk with his family and friends about his solutions. He was also a true handyman who enjoyed working with his hands to fix anything, and some could have considered him to be an inventor. He loved coming up with ideas for new things but was usually surprised to learn someone had beat him to the punch. He enjoyed woodworking and creating special pieces for everyone.
Brad will be remembered for having a big heart and loving his family and friends above all else.
Survivors include his wife Kelly, Hays, KS, his children Brody and Kaylee, both of Lawrence, KS, father Robert Horn of Phillipsburg, KS, sister Valeri Tuley of Topeka, KS, and brother and sister-in-law Robert E. Horn and Tricia of Omaha, NE, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Brad was preceded in death by his mother Ardith and brother Brent.
