Glade resident, Brent N. Norris, passed away Sunday, December 26, 2021 at Newton Medical Center, Newton, KS, at the age of 63.
Brent was born to Nick and Dolores (Klink) Norris on December 1, 1958 in Phillipsburg, KS.
Brent began school at Phillipsburg Elementary and graduated from Goodland High School in 1977. He then graduated from Kansas City Kansas Area Vocational Technical School in 1979 with a focus in electronics.
He was united in marriage to Beth (Kitten) Norris in Lakin, KS on November 5, 1983. To this union one daughter Erika was born.
Survivors include his wife Beth of Glade and his daughter Erika and fiancé Tyler Holloway of Hays.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Dolores (Klink) and sister, Brenda.
Growing up, Brent was active in Boy Scouts; he received the God and Country Award and earned all the requirements to become an Eagle Scout. He continued service as a Boy Scout Leader, volunteered at Dane G. Hansen Scout Reservation, was the 4-H Shooting Sports leader, and served on the Glade City Council for over 20 years. He was a member of the Borderline Gun Club and First Christian Church. He was always willing to help others with anything they needed.
Brent had a wide variety of interests and liked to have a variety of projects in the works. Some of his favorites included blacksmithing, welding, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, hunting, and raising buffalo. He worked for a short time with the Rock Island Railroad before transitioning to the gas pipeline industry. He began with Kansas-Nebraska Natural Gas in 1980; saw the changes through KN Energy, Kinder-Morgan, and finished his 38 years with Tallgrass Energy, retiring in 2018.
After retiring, Brent's days were filled with various activities. This usually included a few trips to town with his border collie, Jake. He also became part of the afternoon coffee group which allowed him to make new friends and through some of them, create connections to the past.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 31, 2021 in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor LeRoy Herder officiating. The services will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page . Burial will follow in the Belmont Cemetery, Phillips County, KS.
Mr. Norris will lie in state from Noon until 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. for visitation.
Memorial contributions may be made to Dane G. Hansen Scout Reservation or the Borderline Gun Club.
