Obituary

Bruce Eugene Colip, son of Charlie Cecil & Thea Maxine (Hubbard) Colip, was born January 26, 1944, in Norton, Kansas, and passed away on Friday, October 22, 2010 in the Norton County Hospital, Norton at the age of 66.

He grew up on the family farm north of Norton until moving into Norton in 1961. He attended Norton High School and graduated with the class of 1961. He enlisted in the Army National Guard on January 10, 1964 and received an honorable discharge on January 19, 1970 as a Staff Sergeant. On January 30, 1965, Bruce & Marilyn Glennemeier were united in marriage in Logan, Kansas. To this union four children were born: Randy, Brenda, Shalise & JaLynn.

Bruce spent many years farming. He and Marilyn owned and operated Town & Country Kitchen from 1987 to 1994. He also worked for Norton County Road & Bridge and Kansas Department of Transportation until his retirement in 2006. Bruce's many hobbies included racing his antique race car, cruising in his 1960 Chevy Impala, woodworking and especially spending time with his grandkids.

He had belonged to Odd Fellows, Eagles Lodge, and the Norton American Legion. Bruce was a member of the Church of God and served on the Church Council.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of the home; his four children, Randy & his wife Rhonda, Brenda Dole & husband Dan, JaLynn Urban & husband Dominic all of Norton and Shalise Cochran & her husband Ted of Hays; eight grandchildren, Ashley & Javen Colip, Zachary, Austine & Cassius Dole, Shayla Cochran and Mason & Garrett Urban; one sister, Diana Ohman & husband Bill of Augusta, KS; two very special "adopted" daughters, Kim Fiscus & husband Tony & family of Norton and Elaine Gaer & Kelly Gear and Family of Topeka, Kansas.; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Cremation was planned. Memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 29, 2010 at the Church of God, Norton, with Pastor Terry Worthington officiating. Inurnment followed in the Norton Cemetery, Norton.
