Obituary

Calvin Lavon Schra went home to be with his Maker on May 26, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Center in Ravenna, Nebraska. He was 83 years & 11 months old at the time of his death.
Calvin was born June 19, 1934 in rural Phillips County, the son of Klaus & Ella (Boeve) Schra. He attended country school then graduated from Prairie View High School in Prairie View, KS in 1951. He made his home and livelihood on the family farm near Prairie View until failing health made it necessary for him to retire from farming. He was a long-time member of the Prairie View Reformed Church.
In June, 1957 Calvin was inducted into the United States Army. During his service he was stationed in Fort Riley, Kansas and Manheim, Germany. He was honorably discharged in May, 1959.
In 1994, at age 60, Calvin met and married the "love of his life", Dianne Meeks. He loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as his own. Many times you could hear the kids talking about "their favorite Grandpa", which made him so very proud. Their youngest granddaughter was diagnosed with brain cancer at age 3 and she became his special "Sweet Pea." The two spent a lot of time together after Dianne & Calvin moved to Phillipsburg.
Calvin became a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Phillipsburg, serving several terms as an Elder. He was also a member of the DAV and a long-time member of the VFW.
In 2012 Calvin & Dianne retired to the Good Samaritan Village in Hastings, NE, where Calvin became an associate member of the Second Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and brother-in-law, Stan Harbers.
Calvin is survived by two sisters, Maxine Harbers and Audrey Wiltfong, both of Norton, KS; his wife, Dianne, of Hastings, NE; stepson, Brian Anderson & wife, Janette, of Phillipsburg, KS; four grandchildren: Allen, Lairra, Chantel and Todd Anderson; four great-grandchildren: Talisha, Kindel, Aiden and Aubrey; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
