On September 14,2023 Carl Eugene Smith of Logan Kansas went to meet his Lord and Savior at the age of 88. Carl was born July 27,1935, in Graham County to Lonnie and Beryl (Snyder) Smith. He spent his childhood on the family farm in Logan Kansas helping out with the milking, haying and farming. Carl attended High School in Logan, graduating with the class of 1954.
In 1958 he married Shirley Horn. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage until Shirely's death in 2014. To this union 5 children were born Carla, Deborah, Lorri, Brenda and Steven. Later they adopted their grandson Randon.
Carl was a member of the First Christian Church of Logan, a member of the American Paint Horse Association, Fort Bissell Saddle Club and the Phillips County Riders. He worked jobs around Logan for various farmers, the Logan school and the Logan Manor as Maintenance Supervisor where he retired after over 15 years of service.
Carl was very active in not only his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids activities, but also his many nieces, nephews and other children in the community, rarely missing a practice or a game. Carl raised paint horses for years and at one time had over 20 head. He also enjoyed fishing, watching westerns, visiting with friends/family and riding horses even at the age of 85.
Carl was preceded in death by wife Shirley, grandson Jeff Chestnut, infant great grandson Levonte Reed, infant great granddaughter Naudya Gottschalk, his parents Lonnie and Beryl Smith, sister Johnita, brother Johnny, sisters in law, Sharon, Ollie, Pat and Wanda, brother in law Alan Chestnut, son in law Gary Malesker and grandson in law, Jimmie Schultz.
Carl is survived by daughters Carla (Flint) Griffin, Deborah Smith, Lorri (Blake) Burns, Brenda (Dennis) Chestnut and son Steven (Susan) Smith. Sisters Lucille(Lowell) Smith and Kaye(Vincent) Ferrer and brothers LeRoy, Bob(Karen), Rex(Ora), and Stan. 14 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 10:30 a.m. in the Logan Christian Church with Pastors Troy Buss & Glen Graham officiating. The service will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan.
Visitation will be from 12:00 to 9:00 Sunday and Monday at the Logan Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Logan Life Center or the Logan Christian Church.
