Carol Fern Olliff (Drake), the daughter of Leland and Freda Drake (Kiehl), was born on July 30, 1939 in Garfield Township, Nebraska on the family farm where she spent her youngest years. The family then moved to Red Cloud, Nebraska where Carol was raised. There, she attended school and enjoyed being part of the band. She played the clarinet and always loved marching in the town parades. Carol completed 12 years of education in Red Cloud, Nebraska. In 1957, shortly after she graduated, she married Norman Olliff in Red Cloud. They then moved to Smith Center, Kansas where they spent the first seven years of their marriage and had their first child, Sheila Engel (Olliff). In 1965 they packed up and moved to Norton, Kansas after Norman was transferred there due to his career. Norton, Kansas is the place they had their Son, Verland Olliff; and was also the place they shared the rest of their lives together.
As a child Carol really enjoyed roller skating in Inavale, Nebraska with her friends. She also loved dancing; especially while doing the 'Twist!' In her adult life she enjoyed going to garage sales and bartering for the very best price! The only thing she loved to do more than getting a good deal was playing Bingo and putting pennies in the slot machines at the casino! Carol was also a sharp shooter! So good in fact she was ranked one of the top women in the state for Trap shooting. Her eye was also just as good at shooting photography as it was at shooting guns! Carol was a great cook and enjoyed making sweet treats and meals for her family. Nothing made her happier than when she was with her loved ones.
Preceding her death were her parents; Leland and Freda Drake (Kiehl), her Sister Ellen Peterson (Drake) and brother-in-law Neal Peterson, Brother George Drake and sister-in-law Phyllis, and her Brother-in-law Roger Briggs.
Still left to cherish her memory are: Her Husband of 59 years, Norman Olliff from Norton, KS, Sister Rita Briggs from Hastings, NE, Daughter Sheila Engel (Olliff) and Son-in-law John Engel from Norton, KS, Son Verland Olliff and Daughter-in-law Corinna Olliff from Norton, KS, Grandchildren Ashley Milner (Engel), Matthew Engel, Morgan Olliff, AlexZander Olliff, Makale Olliff, and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
