Carol Joline Hintz Short was born November 19, 1934, in Canton, Kansas, to her parents Reynold and Ethel Irene (Gard) Hintz. She was the oldest of their 4 children. Carol graduated valedictorian from Canton High School in 1953, and graduated Cum Laude from McPherson College McPherson, Kansas, in May of 1958.
Carol accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior as a child and was later baptized in biblical baptism at the Canton Baptist Church. Carol taught Sunday school and bible schools for many years. She also served as Sunday school and church pianist and organist. Carol was a teacher in Wakeeney, Kansas, and Phillipsburg, Kansas, for a total of 25 years.
On June 25, 1960, Carol was united in marriage to Danny Short at the Canton Baptist Church. They lived in several different places while Danny was on the road with his work, then eventually making their permanent home in Prairie View, Kansas. They lived in Prairie View for 56 years before moving to the Prairie Wind Villa in Phillipsburg, Kansas, in the fall of 2019.
Carol liked to garden and preserved many garden items for the family table, she loved flowers, especially roses, spending many hours working with them. Reading was important and led her to volunteer many hours at the Prairie View library.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Reynold and Ethel Hintz, and her husband of 59 years Danny Short.
Survivors include sons Rodger and wife Beth of Kersey, Colorado, David and wife Mary of Wichita, Kansas, grandchildren Jarrod Short and wife Amanda of Greeley, Colorado, Kellie Cearns and husband Matt of Torrington, Wyoming, Justin Short and wife Ellen of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Caitlin Short and special friend Dan Hall of Augusta, Kansas, and Colton and Isabella Short of Wichita Kansas, great grandchildren Caleb, Addysen, Isabella, Colten, Brantley, Alexis, Chloe, Virginia, Daniel, Joy, Harlan, and Aryonn. Carol is also survived by all 3 of her siblings: sisters Norma Pankratz of Castle Rock, Colorado and Margaret Hunter and husband Stan of Dresher, Pennsylvania, and brother Alvin Hintz and his wife Myra of Littleton, Colorado as well as numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, in Phillipsburg, Kansas, with Pastor Shawn Richardson and Bryan Troyer officiating. Burial will follow at the Prairie View Cemetery. Services will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page .
Carol will lie in state on Thursday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, in Phillipsburg.
