Obituary

Carol Joann (Roth) Werner was born October 24, 1939 in Phillips County, Kansas and left this world on July 17, 2019 at the Smith County Hospital in Smith Center, Kansas, at the age of 79.
Daughter of Roy & Hazel (Highley) Roth, Carol was born in the family farmhouse south of Gretna, Kansas, near the banks of Deer Creek. As a young child she attended a one-room school house until she was old enough to enroll in high school. She graduated from Phillipsburg High School with the class of 1956.
Shortly before graduation, Carol was united in marriage to Walter Stapel. To this union a son, Allen, was born.
She later married Harry Dean Price and was blessed with a daughter, Rhonda, and another son, Curtis.
Carol worked as a Candy Striper at the hospital and then started a cattle-hauling business with her first husband. Her love of the outdoors and animals began at an early age and continued throughout her life. She has been overjoyed to have their son, Allen, carry on that business to this day.
Later on Carol also worked as a waitress, but the job she treasured most was being a grandma and great-grandma. She always enjoyed spending time with her friends and looked forward to special gatherings with her family, which just keeps growing.
It's hard to remember how many games of checkers were played, the number of fishing trips that were planned, the countless loaves of banana nut bread baked in a can, or the many ribbons received from each year's county fair. So many memories… so little time. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Roy & Hazel Roth; a son, Curtis Price; a niece, Shani Hoover; and husbands, Walter Stapel and Harry Price.
Survivors include her son, Allen Stapel & wife, Connie, of Phillipsburg, KS; her daughter, Rhonda Gibson & husband, Andrew, of Kirwin, KS; her brother, Neal Roth & wife, Linda, of Phillipsburg; grandchildren: Chris Stapel, Justin Gibson, Jesse Gibson, Dana Elder, Aaron Hunergarde, Amber Roth and Adam Hunergarde; great-grandchildren: Hesston Swissher, Nathan Vohs, Gage Gibson, and Gunner & Gavin Gibson; nephews: Shannon Roth, Jerod Roth and Garrett Roth; and many cousins.
