IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carole H.
Newlin
February 6, 1935 – March 27, 2019
Carole Henrietta (Ingels) Newlin was born on February 6, 1935 to Merl and Mary (Field) Ingels in Horton, KS. She passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at the Phillips County Retirement Center at the age of 84 years.
Carole attended school in Horton, KS, and graduated from high school there in 1953. On August 19, 1955, she married her high school sweetheart, Charles Samuel Newlin, at the United Methodist Church in Horton, KS. After their marriage, they moved to Emporia, KS where Charles completed his teaching degree at Emporia State Teacher's College and Carole worked as a switchboard operator at the telephone company.
On November 13, 1957, their first daughter, Kim Diane (Newlin) Babcock, was born in Horton, KS. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Hartford, KS, where Charles accepted his first teaching position as an industrial arts teacher and coach. On March 12, 1960, a second daughter, Kay Annette Newlin, was born to them in Emporia, KS.
Carole and Charles, along with their girls lived in Hartford until the summer of 1963 when they moved to Phillipsburg, KS. Charles had accepted an industrial arts teaching position and was also hired as an assistant football coach and the head boys' basketball coach. Carole was a homemaker, but began working outside the home once their girls were in school and a bit older. She began employment at the local J.C. Penney retail store, and worked there for several years. When her husband, Charles, passed away in November of 1980, Carole was offered a position in the gas measurement department at KN Energy, where she worked until the company closed its doors. She then went to work at True Value for a few years, until she was approached by David and Karen Rankin to begin her career as a floor clerk at Rankin Drug. Later, after the Rankins sold their
business to Rob and Stacie Wenzl, she worked at the new location, MidWest Family Health, until retiring at the age of 75.
Carole was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and public servant of the Phillipsburg community. Her cheerful work ethic and dependability followed her wherever she was employed. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Phillipsburg. Her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren, and in the most recent years, her great grandchildren. She enjoyed creating beautiful memories for her family all throughout her lifetime, whether it was a delicious family dinner or a special holiday celebration. She was a loyal fan of her Grandchildren's activities and was almost always present at all of their sports and music events. She was the best listener and was just a phone call away whenever anyone needed to chat. Carole was a loyal KU basketball fan and some of her favorite memories were attending a few games at Allen Field House in Lawrence, KS with her family members.
Carole was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, and parents, Merl and Mary.
