Obituary

Cecilia Alvina Grauerholz, daughter of Henry & Elizabeth (Rahjes) Seemann, was born in Smith County, Kansas on March 2, 1936. She died May 14, 2011 at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg, Kansas at the age of 75.

On April 29, 1955, Cecilia was united in marriage to Raymond Grauerholz in Kensington, Kansas. This union was blessed with four children: a son, Marcus, and three daughters, Melinda, Marcia and Dian. Raymond & Cecilia had just celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in April of this year.

In addition to her role as wife, homemaker and mother, Cecilia was an active and faithful member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Kensington and the women's Altar Guild. In her spare time she enjoyed quilting, as well as playing cards with her Bridge Club. In later years, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Cecilia was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters: Doris Strege & husband, Ted; Ruth Seemann; Julie Landvalter & husband, Robert; and Wilma Wangerin & husband, Leland; three brothers: Paul Christian Seemann, John Seemann and Rudolph Seemann; and three brothers-in-law: Harlan Wangerin, Matt Johanen and Ben Porter.

Survivors include her son, Marcus & wife, Marcy, of Olathe, KS; daughters, Melinda Ewing & husband, Ron, of Alliance, NE; Marcia Zillinger of Phillipsburg, KS; and Dian Tien & husband, Jan, of Prairie View, KS; brothers, Paul Seemann & wife, Kay, of Smith Center, KS and Thomas Seemann & wife, Joann, of Norton, KS; sisters, Marie Wangerin of Kensington, KS; Alma Johanen of West Bend, WI; and Priscilla Porter of Hastings, NE; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the St. John Lutheran Church, Kensington with Pastor Lorna Paulus officiating. Burial will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery.

Mrs. Grauerholz will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday & Tuesday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.
