Charles Lee Dougherty, 85 of Logan, passed away peacefully Saturday morning at the Logan Manor. Surrounded by family, he surrendered after a long battle of declining health.
Born on March 11, 1933 as the middle child of Walter John Dougherty and Myrtle (Frazier) Dougherty, dad graduated from Natoma High School before joining the Navy.
On November 10, 1956, he married the love of his life, Evah Lea McRae, whose selfless love comforted him throughout their marriage, especially during the last few years of poor health.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother and infant son, Jeffrey John Dougherty.
Survivors include his wife, Evah of the home; two sons, Mitch of Port Clinton, OH and Milt & wife, Marti of McPherson, KS; three daughters, Marie Brown and Melinda Dougherty, both of Logan, KS and Marilyn Wilson & husband, Frank of Grove City, OH; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren; and his sister, Lois Doty & husband, Arvin of Natoma, KS.
Dad served in the Navy, Marines and Army and was proud of both his service and his country. A graduate of Fort Hays State University, he worked as a teacher and coach in Zurich and Webster, Kansas before moving to Logan where he served his community as a school administrator for 28 years. He retired in 1994, but continued both his pig farming and business ventures in and around Logan.
His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the joys of his life. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards with friends and working.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2018 in the United Methodist Church, Logan, KS, with Pastor Ted Stapleton officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan, KS.
Mr. Dougherty will lie in state from Noon until 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Logan Funeral Home, Logan, KS, with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. that evening for visitation.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Logan Manor Nursing Home Hospice Room.
