Charles Edward Lohrmeyer, son of Frank & Teresa (Jurgensmeier) Lohrmeyer, was born October 8, 1924 in Logan, Kansas, and died Friday, July 3, 2015 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas, at the age of 90.
Known to friends and family as "Charlie", he grew up in the Logan area and attended Champion Hill country school through the 8th grade, leaving school to help out on the family farm.
He was inducted into the U. S. Marines on January 24, 1945, serving in Japan during World War II, and was honorably discharged on August 24, 1946.
On May 18, 1948, Charlie was united in marriage to Mary Ann Rundle. After twelve short years she passed away on September 7, 1960. Several years later, on June 4, 1964, he married Ida Gibson, who also preceded him in death on June 10, 1986. Charlie was fortunate to be blessed with three children: Donald, Carol and Mary Ellen.
For many years Charlie farmed in the Logan area. In the late 1950's and early 1960's he was a Road Maintenance Operator in Towanda Township. He took great pride in his job driving the road grader, and he enjoyed helping people out, especially those who got stranded by snowstorms.
He also drove a meat truck route for several years and then worked as a salesman for Rowh Motors in Norton, Kansas, a job which offered him much success and one which he dearly loved. His honest, friendly nature and the fact that he never knew a stranger helped him form many new friendships and develop a sincere appreciation for his customers.
Charlie loved to laugh and tell jokes, always with a twinkle in his eye. He also had a great love for animals, especially cats.
In addition to his parents and beloved wives, Mary Ann and Ida, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and Stephen.
Survivors include his son, Donald Lohrmeyer & wife, Linda, of Lovell, WY; daughters Carol Walker & husband, Dennis, of Haysville, KS and Mary Ellen Link & husband, Kelly, of Phillipsburg, KS; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; as well as his adored cat, Rosie.
The family chose cremation. Graveside services will be held Monday, July 13, at 10:00 a.m. in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan, KS, with military honors by the U. S. Marine Corp.
Friends may sign the book on Sunday, July 12, from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Logan Funeral Home in Logan.
