Obituary

Charles Richard Portenier, son of Alven and Rosa (McFarlane) Portenier, was born on February 1, 1942 in Glenwood Township, Phillips County, Kansas.  He died December 26, 2020 at Kearney Regional Hospital, Kearney, Nebraska at the age of 78.

Charles was raised on the family farm in Glenwood Township.  He attended country school through Grade 8 and graduated from Alma High School, Alma, Nebraska.  His passion in High School was football and he was chosen to represent Alma High School in the first Nebraska Shrine Bowl game in 1959.

On June 1, 1961, he was united in marriage to Patricia Diane Rogers at the home of her parents in Phillipsburg, Kansas.  To this union two daughters were born: Linda Sue and Kristina Kaye.

Over the years he worked at several different occupations beginning with the Alma Block Company following high school, farming for 5 years, then in different positions at TAMKO for 21 years and finishing his working years in the maintenance department at Phillips County Road and Bridge.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Connie Ann Roberts; his brothers, Howard Lee Portenier and Alven Dean Portenier; sister-in-law, Sandra Kaye Portenier; brother-in-law Tom Jorgensen and his nieces Jeannie Kay Portenier and Tina Marie (Jorgensen) Schaben.

Survivors include: his wife Diane of the home, Phillipsburg; his two daughters, Linda Power and husband Mark, Newport, Tennessee and Kristi Monroe and husband Terry, McPherson, Kansas; His sister Marjorie Jorgensen, Seward, Nebraska; his sister-in-law Elaine Portenier, Phillipsburg; and his brother-in-law George Roberts and wife Marla, Lincoln, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Summer, Joshua, Breana and Meghan and one great-grandson Chase.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 4 th , 2021 in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Phillips County, KS, with Pastor Jay Brandon officiating.  The services will be streamed live or posted on our Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page.

Charles will lie in state from noon until 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the funeral chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alma Free Methodist Church or Agra American Legion.
