Charlotte Nichol-Broyles, passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Hays Medical Center, Hays, KS at the age of 86.

She was born in Ellis County, KS to Peter and Marie (Schmidt) Bittel. She attended Champion Hill School and Logan High School for 1½ years. She was a helper to the ladies in the area when a baby was born watching the other children and doing housework for them. She then worked at Walker Air Base.

On October 11, 1944 Charlotte married Elvin "Bud" Nichol at the St. John Catholic Church, Logan. They moved out on the home place on Bow Creek. There they raised 6 children. In the fall of 1987 they moved into Logan. Bud passed away January 28, 1988.

On September 30, 1989 Charlotte married Loren Broyles at the St. John Catholic Church in Logan. They made their home in Logan. Loren passed away on April 26, 2003.

Some of her interests were playing cards, Bingo, trips to the Casino and visiting with family and friends, being on the Township Board, ABC Club, American Auxiliary and Catholic Ladies Guild.

After a long illness, she moved to the Logan Manor in November 2011. January 2012 Charlotte moved to Dawson Place in Hill City until her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Bud & Loren; son, Charlie; daughter, Linda Archer; stepson, Dale Broyles; and grandson, Troy Nichol.

Survivors include daughter-in-law, Janet Nichol of Logan; daughter, Leona & Ron Surface of Ness City; sons, Gary & Alta Nichol of Lindsborg, Daryl & Carol Nichol of Lakewood, CO, Ron & Nancy Nichol of Hill City; stepson, Danny Broyles of Wichita; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; brothers, Clarence & Dorothy Bittel of LaCrosse and Carroll Bittel of Glade; and sister, Kathy Scott of Sutherland, NE.

Charlotte will be missed by all her family and friends.

A Rosary service will be held Wed. evening, Dec. 12, at 7:00 p.m. at the Logan Funeral Home in Logan, KS with the family receiving friends from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Dec. 13, at 10:00 a.m. in St. John's Catholic Church, Logan, with Father George Chalbhagam officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan.

Mrs. Broyles will lie in-state Tuesday from noon – 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Logan Senior Center or the Dawson Place Activities Fund.
