Christine Adelaide (Jerby) Bennett passed away February 28, 2010 at the age of 94 years. She was born December 25, 1915 in Sugarloaf Township, Rooks County, Kansas south of Speed to Eugene and Goldie Griffith Jerby. In a ceremony performed by Judge Fred Kelly, Christine married Eugene K. Bennett on June 23, 1937 at Phillipsburg, Kansas. They lived on Eugene's parents farm until 1943 when they moved to a farm south of Speed, Kansas and resided there until 1979 when they moved to Phillipsburg, Kansas.
September 14, 1934 Christine was assigned to work as a Practical Nurse and traveled to many homes caring for the sick and newborn babies. After her marriage she became a housewife and a farm helper and to this union three daughters were born, Lela Maxine,
Belva Lea and Wanda Arlene. She was a caring and loving mother and grandmother and a wonderful cook. The family gathered often at her house for Holiday and Sunday dinners.
Christine was a member of the Stitch and Chatter Club of Speed for many years, Alpha Chapter Order of the Eastern Star of Logan and the Pleiades Chapter of Phillipsburg.
During their retirement years, Gene and Christine traveled in their motor home. They enjoyed many trips with a niece, daughters, son-in-laws, grandchildren and friends.
Gene was her caregiver as she proceeded down the path of the dreaded disease of Alzheimer and when he passed away in 2002 she was admitted to the Phillips County Hospital Long Term Care, and when the LTC was closed she was admitted to Phillips County Retirement Center on January 7, 2009 and waited for her call to eternity.
Christine was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Ferman and Harley, three sisters Gwen, Ruby & Fern
Christine is survived by: Her daughters Lela Morgan and husband Tom of Glade, Belva Leydig and husband Burdett of Prairie View, Wanda Brown and husband Doug of Colby. Grandchildren: Brenda Chance and husband Brian, Carla Bruning and husband Theron, Diana Gross and husband Jeff of McCook, NE, Tammy Tillotson and husband Gene, Mike Leydig and wife Lisa all of Kearney, NE, Kali Woofter and husband AJ of Merriam, KS, Kelsey Miller and husband Russ of North Platte, NE. Ten Great Grandchildren and two Great Great Grandchildren. Christine is also survived by a sister, Adele Ellis of Jerome, ID and many Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday March 3rd, 2010 in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Rev. Phillip Morris officiating. Burial followrf in the Bow Creek Cemetery, Phillips County.
