Clara Jahanna Sebelius, daughter of Henry A. & Theresa K. (Busker) Antons, was born November 25, 1923 near Vernon, Colorado on the family farm. She passed away March 22, 2018 at her home in Long Island, Kansas at the age of 94.
Clara grew to womanhood near Vernon, CO, attending rural grade school and graduating from the Evangelical Lutheran Church School in Vernon.
On October 4, 1940, in St. Francis, Kansas, she was united in marriage to Lynnwood R. Campbell from Houston, TX. To this union three sons and two daughters were born. They made their home in Colorado. Mr. Campbell passed away December 2, 1969 in Castle Rock, CO.
On February 14, 1971, Clara was united in marriage to Ralph C. Sebelius at the United Methodist Church in Almena, KS by Rev. Martin Holler. They made their home on the farm north of Almena. Upon their retirement in 1997, the couple moved to Long Island, Kansas.
Clara was baptized on February 10, 1924 and confirmed on May 28, 1939 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Vernon, CO. She later became a member of the United Methodist Church in Almena, where she was an active member and Sunday school teacher. She served as church treasurer for many years and also as a UMW District Officer for 4 years. She was a member of Eastern Star, Bethlehem Chapter No. 89 in Almena, KS, where she also served as a Past Matron.
Her hobby was designing and hand-quilting her special "Stitches of Love" quilts, which she gave to family members and many dear friends. She found sewing to be a very relaxing and enjoyable pastime.
Clara enjoyed nature – having a special love for birds and flowers, and a beautiful yard where she spent many hours. She enjoyed people and always had a helping hand for others.
Her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Gerdes Antons of Norden, Germany, and Mr. & Mrs. Claus Busker, of Groothusen, Germany, preceded her in death, along with her parents; her husbands, Lynnwood Campbell and Ralph Sebelius; two sons, baby Campbell and Jim Campbell; two infant daughters, Mable Campbell and Jeweldeen Campbell; her brother, Adolph Antons; two sisters, Elsie Wendel and Mata Capstick; and one daughter-in-law, Beverly Campbell.
Survivors include her son, Lary Campbell and companion, Katie, of Tin Cup, CO; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other dear relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 29, 2018 in the United Methodist Church, Almena, KS, with Reverend Larry Danforth officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Almena.
Mrs. Sebelius will lie in state from Noon until 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, 1115 2nd Street, Phillipsburg, KS 67661.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bethlehem Chapter No. 89 Order of Eastern Star or Hospice Services.
