Colleen Kay Conrad, 73, passed away on February 28, 2025, surrounded by family at the Phillips County Retirement Center.
Colleen Kay Conrad was born on July 30, 1951, in Manhattan, Kansas, to her parents Lloyd Arthur Welborn and Dona Mae (Mellies) Welborn. She was the oldest of four children and grew up in Clyde, Kansas, where she graduated from high school in 1969. Colleen continued her education at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas, earning a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.
In 1974, she married Randy Conrad, and together they were blessed with five children: Wyatt, Wade, Alissa, Webb, and Ashley. The couple made their home in Phillipsburg, Kansas, until their eventual divorce. Colleen worked in various roles within the community, always greeting everyone she met with a warm smile. Through her many jobs, she formed countless friendships and became a familiar, friendly face to so many in Phillipsburg.
Colleen's greatest joy was her children. She was their unwavering supporter—cheering them on at many games, concerts, and school events. This love and devotion extended to her grandchildren, and she treasured the time spent with them. Living close to the school, she enjoyed their daily visits after school.
Colleen also had a passion for baking, especially during the holidays. She loved making cookies and candies to share with her family, creating sweet memories.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Dona Welborn.
Survivors include her children: Wyatt Conrad and wife Shelly of Wimauma, Florida; Wade Conrad and wife Jessica of Gallatin, Tennessee; Webb Conrad and wife Brittani of Phillipsburg, Kansas; Alissa Conaway and husband Travis of Smith Center, Kansas; and Ashley Thomas and husband Kurt of Phillipsburg, Kansas. She is also survived by her siblings: sisters Arlene Grube and husband Art of Wisconsin, and Elaine Shrader of Virginia; brother Gary Welborn and wife Carol of Arkansas, as well as 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Phillipsburg, Kansas. Inurnment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Phillipsburg, Kansas.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, in Phillipsburg, Kansas
Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church.
Colleen's kindness, dedication to family, and warm spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
