Dale Duane Bretton was born July 9, 1935 in Phillips County, KS, the son of Hugh & Edna (LaRue) Bretton.  He was premature, weighing only 2 lbs.  He grew up in Phillips County where he attended school through the 8th grade.

Dale married his first wife, Edna Mae, and to this union, 4 daughters: Doris, Darlene, Dorothy & Dixie were born.

He worked for Rooks County doing dirt work construction.  He later moved to Minneapolis, KS.  After returning back to Phillips County, Dale took over the family farm.

On Sept. 28, 1979, Dale was united in marriage to Joyce Goracke & to this union, three children were born: Katie, Patrick & Joseph.

Dale participated in horse shows & bowling, winning several trophies.   He also enjoyed coon hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother & sister & his brother Dean.

Survivors include his wife Joyce of the home; his daughters: Doris Wiley of Park City, KS, Darlene Walker & husband John of Stockton, KS, Dorothy Bretton & Al Plante of Plainville, KS, Dixie Dibble & husband Bill of Woodston, KS, Katie Shellito & husband Roy of Logan; sons: Patrick Bretton of Glade, KS & Joseph Bretton of Beaver City, NE; his brother Darrell & wife Elaine of Kensington, KS; 16 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren & 1 great-great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 21 at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jay Brandon officiating. The service will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page.  Burial will follow in the Plainview Cemetery, Rural Phillips County.

Visitation will be from 9:00 to 5:00 Wednesday at the funeral home.
