Obituary

Danny Dean Short died Wednesday, June 24, 2020 in the Phillips County Hospital.  He was 87years old and died one day before his 60 th wedding anniversary.

Danny was the son of Daniel Webster Short and Zoe Bell (Allen) Short.  His great-grandfather Daniel Webster Thomas was the founder of the town of Prairie View where Danny called home.  Two other great-grandfathers, James Short and James Allen were homesteading in the period 1870-1873.

As a teenager, Danny started working for area farmers and building terraces.  He worked for Van Pak building or rebuilding many of the state highways.  Later he worked with VP&BP doing dirt work on Interstate-70 from Hays west and Interstate-35 from Assaria past Salina.  When that work was done he went to work on the road crew for Phillips County.

On June 25, 1960, he was united in marriage to Carol Jolene Hintz at the Canton Baptist Church in Canton, Kansas.  He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and was baptized in biblical baptism.

He was preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Zoe Short, 3 sisters, Nadine Shamlin, Dorothy Juras, and Mary Ellen Short, 2 brothers, Don Short and Max Short, 2 nieces, Donna Roberts and Tracy Short, 1 nephew, Dennis Short.  Survivors include his wife Carol, 2 sons, Rodger and Beth of Greeley, Colorado, David and wife Mary of Wichita, grandchildren Jarrod and wife Amanda of Evans, Colorado, Kellie and husband Matt of Torrington, Wyoming, Justin, who is currently serving his country of overseas and wife Ellen of Ft. Drum, NY, Colton Short and Catlin Gorges of Wichita, 10 great-grandchildren, 2 nephews, Greg and Kim Short of Cheyenne, Wyoming.

A graveside service will be held Monday, June 29 at 10:00 a.m. in the Prairie View Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. in the Calvary Baptist Church, Phillipsburg with Pastor Steven Azzara officiating. The service will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page.

Visitation will be from noon to 9:00 Saturday & Sunday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church.
