Obituary

Darlene J. Rumbaugh, daughter of Lowell and Marie (Gumble) Overman, was born July 2, 1925 in the town of Western, Nebraska, and she passed away August 8, 2014 in the Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas, at the age of 89.

Darlene was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who (being an avid sports fan) rarely missed any of her children's or grandchildren's school activities or sporting events.

Along with being very family-oriented, Darlene was always involved in her hometown community organizations and activities.  She was a member of the First Christian Church Women's Fellowship in Hebron, NE as well as a member of the Business & Professional Women of Hebron.  Locally she served as a Senior Center volunteer, was a member of the Fort Bissell Historical Society, the First Christian Church Women's Fellowship, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the BPW.  She had served on the Board of Directors for the American Legion Auxiliary and also as financial secretary for the First Christian Church.

She was a serious genealogist who conducted research for people across the United States, as well as her own family and her marriage families.  Darlene was a past president and long-time member of the Phillips County Genealogical Society.

Her caring nature, sense of humor, and passion for life will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Lowell & Marie Overman, and her husbands:  Robert "Bob" Hindman, Ceril "Si" Currence, and Chester "Chet" Rumbaugh.

Survivors include her son, Everett "Bob" Hindman of Osborne, KS; her daughter, Donna Sanchez of Phillipsburg, KS; two stepsons, Barry Currence of Longmont, CO and Calen Currence of Elgin, IL; two sisters, Donna Newman of Lincoln, NE and Norma Johnson of Santa Barbara, CA; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 13 at 10:00 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with Pastor LeRoy Herder officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 to 9:00 and Tuesday from 9:00 to 9:00 at the funeral home.

Memorials have been established to the Phillips County Genealogical Society.
