Obituary

David Daniel Jerby was born January 17, 1942 in Phillips County, Kansas to Alfred E. Jerby and S. Muriel (Rowland) Jerby and he passed away February 13, 2013 at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, Kansas at the age of 71.

David attended schools in Phillipsburg and graduated from Phillipsburg High School.
On March 9, 1962, he was united in marriage to Brenda Rader at the First Christian Church in Phillipsburg. To this union, four sons and one daughter were born. Last year the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

David lived most of his life in Phillipsburg, working at Broun's Sinclair, Bob's Conoco and Pooch's Standard before starting his career with Tamko. He also worked at Shultz Homes in Plainville, Kansas for five years, making his home between Stockton and Plainville during that time. In 1974 David went to work for Bear Brand Roofing, which later became Tamko Asphalt Products, Inc. He spent most of his time working in the Quality Control Lab at the plant and retired as the Quality Assurance Leadman in 2000.

After retiring David needed something to keep him busy, so he worked briefly at White's Foodliner, the Phillips County Hospital and the Brooke Corporation in Phillipsburg.
In his free time he liked to fish, hunt and play on his computer. He always looked forward to the family's Christmas each year, sitting around the table and playing poker with his kids and grandkids.

David was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Bonnie Woods and Judy Craig; his brother, Alfred; and granddaughter, April Jerby.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda, of the home; four sons: Ricky & wife, Jacque, David & wife, Sheila, and Timothy, all of Phillipsburg, and Gary & wife, Leslie of Wichita, KS; one daughter, Lisa Hirst of Enid, OK; a sister, Gertrude Redinger of Phillipsburg; six grandchildren: Ryan Jerby, Stephan Hirst, Jerrad Jerby, Deric Jerby, Marirae Jerby and Kaycee Jerby; and six great-grandchildren: Chloe Jerby, Sophia Jerby, Jordynn McDiffett, Jazlynn Jerby, Jordan Jerby and Taryn Hirst.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 16, at 2:00 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Visitation will be Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. and Sat. from 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
