Obituary

Dennis Duane Duncan, son of William W. & Charlene (Bretton) Duncan, passed away Sunday, September 24, 2017 at the Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas, at the age of 63.
He was born December 11, 1953 in Dr. Mary's office in Phillipsburg, Kansas. Denny attended the Speed Grade School and then graduated from Phillipsburg High School with the class of 1971. In high school Denny ran cross-country and was a member of FFA.
Denny was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed motor cross and racing his brother's Chevy super sport in drag races. He won quite a few competitions with his yellow Yamaha in his early years. He grew up hunting coyotes and coons with his dad, brother, children and friends. Denny loved to reload his own shells. He taught his sons the love of hunting and fishing along with being their Scoutmaster, helping them earn their Bear claws.
After graduation, he worked for Missouri–Pacific Railroad and helped his Dad on the farm.
On May 31, 1975, he married Idona Horn at the United Methodist Church in Phillipsburg, Kansas. The couple was blessed with two sons, Duane and David. On January 12, 1977 the couple moved with infant son, Duane, to the Duncan family farm in Rooks County. This farm was a timber claim granted to his great granddad, William Duncan, in 1893.
Dennis was a career farmer in addition to having numerous other jobs throughout his lifetime, including driving a water truck and mechanic work. He opened his own radiator shop on the farm, Denny's Repair. In 2010, Dennis and his wife opened the quilt shop and Dennis was the sewing machine repair person until his death.
Dennis was preceded in death by his father, William Duncan; his grandparents, Gail and Lela Duncan, and Charlie and Viola Bretton; also, special great aunt and uncle, George and Marie Duncan.
He is survived by his wife, Idona, of the home; his sons, Duane and wife, Sarah, of Big Springs, NE and David & wife, Becca, of Tonganoxie, KS; his mother, Charlene Duncan, of Phillipsburg; one brother, Chuck Duncan and wife, Wanda, of Phillipsburg; six grandchildren: Luca, Monroe, Norah, Devin, Elaina, and Jack; as well as more nieces, nephews, in-laws, and extended family than you can shake a stick at.
