Phillipsburg resident, Dennis Boyd Horn passed away Monday, December 30, 2019 at Phillips County Retirement Center at the age of 77.
Dennis was born January 24, 1942 to Albert and Ethel (Inman) Horn in rural Phillips County. The 5th of 6 children born into this union, he was preceded in death by his Parents, Siblings: Lorraine, Dorma, Jerry, Duane, and a great-grandson, Trenton.
Dennis was united in marriage to Carol K. Portenier on December 31, 1961 at the Nazarene Church, Phillipsburg, KS. They made their home in Phillipsburg, KS
Dennis began working at the shingle plant at the age of 19, where he was employed for 10 years. Then, he began employment at Farmland Industries until the company restructured. They moved to McPherson where he was employed with NCRA until retirement in March 2005. They remained in McPherson until August 2019 when they relocated back to Phillipsburg, KS.
He is survived by his loving wife Carol of 58 years; daughter, Teresa (Jerry) Groff of Imperial, NE; son, Randy (Julie) Horn of Phillipsburg, KS; daughter, Christina Wilhelms of Jacksonville, FL; son, Darin (Kim) Horn of McPherson, KS; daughter, Sheila (Gary) Niblock of Phillipsburg, KS; 18 grandchildren, Amanda Chubb, Brandon (Julie) Spickelmier, Tonya (Tyson) Wisinger, Randi Kay (Tyrel) Billings, Ethen (Maddy) Horn, Jackson Horn, Kevin Wilhelms, Brian (Kristina) Wilhelms, Kimberly Wilhelms, Danielle Horn, Jordyn (Seth Graham) Horn, Dalyn (Caley Johnson) Chapman, Kyler (Ashlon Stanford) Chapman, Kyara Horn, Baby "J" Horn on the way, Hayden Niblock, Kaitlin Niblock, Austin Niblock; 16 great grandchildren, Braxton Chubb, Adler Chubb, Charlee Spickelmier, Waycee Spickelmier, Kason Wisinger, Breyah Wisinger, McKenna Horn, Maleigha Horn, Daxton Horn, Jacob Wilhelms, Jessie Wilhelms, Chloe Wilhelms, De-Adrian Wilhelms, Rylan Barker, Stella Graham, Reid Christiansen; Sister, Barbara Stephens of Phillipsburg, KS; Sister-in-laws, Eva Jean Clark of Palmdale, CA, Darlene Heaton of Scottsbluff, NE, Loretta Portenier, Pueblo, CO, and June Portenier of Jamestown, TN. Numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and life-long friends.
Cremation was planned. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2020 in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor James Peterson officiating.
Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends for visitation from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. that evening.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Phillips County Retirement Center or American Lung Association.
