Diane Elaine Stutterheim, daughter of Henry and Dorothy (Shearer) Edgett, was born February 8, 1953 in Norton, Kansas, and passed away Monday, August 14, 2017, at the Norton County Hospital in Norton, KS at the age of 64.
Diane graduated from Northern Valley High School in 1971 and then from Fort Hays State University in 1973.
On June 2, 1978 Diane married Dan Mapes. The couple adopted a beautiful little girl, Trudi, in 1980.
On September 3, 1988, Diane married Roy Stutterheim in Prairie View, Kansas. This union brought Roy's two sons into Diane's circle of love and devotion.
Employed by the State of Kansas her entire career, Diane first worked at the Norton State Hospital and then in the SRS offices in Norton and Phillipsburg until her retirement in 2012. After her retirement, she joined her husband, Roy, working on their farm near Prairie View.
In 1989 she became an active member of the Prairie View Reformed Church.
Diane was born with cystic fibrosis but she didn't let it define her. She lived every day to the fullest and cherished every minute. The focus of her life was to help others and she was totally dedicated to her family and friends. She spent many hours visiting folks at the Logan Manor and helping out at various community and church events. She also volunteered at the Long Island and Prairie View libraries.
She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Dorothy & Francis Morford; brothers, Nevin and Edde Edgett; and stepmother, Eleanora Edgett.
Survivors include her husband, Roy, of Prairie View, KS; daughter, Trudi Mapes of Hays, KS; son, Ross Stutterheim & wife, Helen, of Overland Park, KS; father, Henry Edgett of Norton, KS; mother-in-law, Carolene Stutterheim and brother, Wayne Morford & wife, Roma, all of Phillipsburg, KS; sister, Nyla Gebhard & husband, Craig of Long Island, KS; three granddaughters; step-sister, Diana McCarbrey of Wichita; step-brother, Mike McCarbrey & wife, Joon of Fort Myers, FL; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 19, 2017 in the Prairie View Reformed Church in Prairie View with Pastor Aaron Rust officiating. Burial will follow in the Prairie View Cemetery.
Mrs. Stutterheim will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday & Friday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, 1115 2nd Street, Phillipsburg, KS 67661, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday evening for visitation.
