Obituary

Richard Warren "Dick" Kennedy was born January 1, 1946 the 5th of 6 children born to Vern Wesley & Sylvia Mae (Gipe) Kennedy. He was born on the farm 11 miles north and 3 east of Phillipsburg, KS.
The majority of Dick's childhood was spent in North Central KS. Growing up on the farm he developed a lifelong love for his horses and his greyhounds.
On March 31, 1963, his dad passed away suddenly. At that time, Dick went to work for Harlan County in Nebraska and lived with and supported his mom until he entered the Army in December 1965.
After basic training in Ft. Lewis, Washington, Dick was stationed in Vietnam for 11 months. During his deployment, Dick was wounded twice. He received 2 Purple Hearts, 2 Bronze Stars & several other medals related to the Vietnam Campaign. He served with gallantry & Honor. At the time of his discharge he was a Sgt.
On January 30, 1968, Dick was united in marriage to Linda Highley in Phillipsburg where they made their home. Two children, JoAnn & Wes blessed this union. The family later moved to a farm near Axtell, NE.
In 1981, Dick married Dianne (Rosenberg) Morgan, the love of his life, in Oklahoma. The couple lived in the Phillipsburg area, working together. For most of their life together, they lived on a farm north of Phillipsburg, ½ mile from the farm where he was born.
In 1994, after reading an ad looking for cowboys to make The Great Cattle Drive of '95 from Fort Worth, TX to Miles City, MT, he sent an application & was hired on. It was a 1600 mile ride herding longhorns. Dick made many memories & friends along that trail.
Greater than his love for his horses & hounds was his love for his family. He spent many hours teaching them his love of horses & hounds & sharing stories. Dick was a great story teller.
Dick continued to ride until 2014 when he rode in his last rodeo parade. He continued to hunt coyotes until the end of February this year.
In March, due to failing health, Dick & Dianne moved to town. On April 8, while up getting a snack of those much loved Amish peaches, Dick fell and broke his hip.
After surgery in Kearney, he returned to the Phillips County Hospital for therapy. His goal was to go home, but God had a different plan.
It would be an omission to not share more about Dick. His love of music began early in life when he learned to play the jaws harp from his dad. In recent years he learned to play the guitar, mandolin and was working on the banjo.
The most important memory we are sharing is Dick's love of the Lord Jesus Christ and Jesus Blood atonement for our sins. The message of the cross.

Ivan Breinig; his son, Kenny Morgan; 2 brothers, Wesley Jewell (Jeannie) & William Joseph (Bill) & wife Phyllis; an infant sister, Francis Mae Kennedy; his father & mother-in-law, Elvin & Bonnie Rosenberg; sisters-in-law, Zona Rosenberg Brockhon, Sheryl Rosenberg Gillette & Vonnie Rosenberg Younts; brother-in-law, Dave Rosenberg; niece, Katrina Anne White; double cousin, Phyllis Ann Polovitch; his second mom & dad, George & Lucille Kennedy & many other family members.
