Obituary

Dick De Witt, 95, formerly of Prairie View, passed away on September 14, 2017, at Phillips County Retirement Center. He was born in the vicinity of Luctor on January 22, 1922, to John and Susie Tien De Witt. He attended a country school through eighth grade and then began to assist his father on the family farm. He proudly served his country in the US Army/Air Force for almost three years. After his discharge, he married Ila Greving on May 22, 1946, and they were blessed with 66 wonderful years of marriage and six children. They farmed in the Prairie View community, and Dick also worked in the construction business.

All throughout his life he remained a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and lived out his faith daily by always being willing to help others. Today his legacy will live on in all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his children, Jerry and wife Gloria, Dennis and wife Cathy, Roger and wife Roxie, Karen Huiting and husband Jerald, all of Prairie View; Doris Van Kooten and husband Kenneth of Holland, Michigan; and Brian and wife Michelle of Hays. His grandchildren and great grandchildren are: Ed and Kendra DeClue, Manny and Lindgren; Doug and Tina Vander Velde, Ryan, Tyson, Owen, and Weston; Nathan and Nikole De Witt, Ethan and Macy; Darrin and Trudi De Witt, Darian, Tierney, and Dalton; Jared De Witt and Melody Renzelman, Kirsten, Ian, Dylan, and Stanley; Randy and Tami Rua, Regan and Austin; Ryan and Dana Grammon, Anthony and Clay; Adam and Crystal Hawley, Conrad and Cierra; Kassandra De Witt and Brad Eppenbach; Jason De Witt; and Kaylee, Kelsie, and Kallyn De Witt. Great-great grandchildren surviving are Braley and Legacy. He is also survived by his siblings; Cornelia VanderPloeg, Fulton, IL, and Henry De Witt, Grand Rapids, MI; brothers-in-law Wayne Greving and wife Delores, Pella, IA, and Leland Greving and wife Shirley, Central City, NE. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a sister Trennie, and sisters-in-law Edith De Witt and Marjorie Tanis, brothers-in-law Paul Tanis and Palmer VanderPloeg, and great-grandson Derek Vander Velde.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 18 at 10:30 a.m. in the Luctor Christian Reformed Church, Phillips County. Burial will follow in the Luctor Cemetery with Military Honors by Ft. Riley Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 Sat. & 12:00 to 9:00 Sun. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday.
