July 10, 1946 – January 18, 2025
Phillips County resident, Donald LeRoy Ehm, son of Arthur and Alice (Beckmann) Ehm was born July 10, 1946 in Phillipsburg. He passed away Saturday, January 18, 2025 at the Smith County Health and Rehab Center in Smith Center at the age of 78.
Don spent his childhood on the family farm and attended school in Phillipsburg graduating with the class of 1965. After high school he attended NCK Tech in Beloit where he earned an associate degree in carpentry.
He was united in marriage to Saundra Hunter on June 22, 1968 in Phillipsburg. To this union three children were born: Mike, Brenda, and Caci. The couple moved to Larned for a short time before moving back to work on the family farm. In 1975, they returned to Larned where he worked for Doerr's IH. The couple later divorced in 1982. In 1984 he moved to McCook and worked for the IH dealership until 1985 when he moved back to Phillipsburg to take over the family farm where he farmed and raised cattle. Then in 1989 Don then met and married Heidemarie Fischer Horn on August 20, 1989 in Phillipsburg.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, wife Heidimarie, brother Richard, and an infant brother Melvin.
Survivors include his son Mike and wife Lynette of Phillipsburg; daughters Brenda Ehm of Phillipsburg and Caci Kirby and husband Jamie of Larned; a sister Betty Placone and husband Joe of Mesa, AZ; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; cousin Larry Feldman of Athol; and numerous other family and friends.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 23, 2025 at the Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stuttgart, with Pastor Kathy Whitney officiating. The services will be streamed on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page. Interment will follow in the Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery.
Mr. Ehm will lie in state from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral chapel Wednesday evening from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. for visitation.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church.
