Charles Donald Bogart, son of Charles & Minnie (Kronke) Bogart, was born in Kirwin, Kansas on August 3, 1925 and passed away Friday, April 14, 2017 at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 91.
Don grew up on a farm five miles south of Kirwin with three brothers – Carlton, Bob, and Jim. He attended a one-room country school through 8th grade and then Kirwin High School, graduating with the class of 1942.
After graduation he farmed for a few years and then went to work for Kansas- Nebraska Natural Gas Company, retiring after 35 years of service.
On June 1, 1946, Don married Mary Lou Baughman in Phillipsburg, KS. This union was blessed with two children, Cindy and Rick.
In his spare time, Don enjoyed a variety of hobbies and activities including golfing, fishing, bowling, camping, traveling, and "coffee time" at the E & M Café, which later became Shelly Ann's.
During their 30 years of retirement together, Don & Mary enjoyed traveling, spending their summers in Woodland Park, CO and some of their winters in Apache Junction, AZ, Laughlin, NV and Las Vegas, NV. When they were home, he always kept busy with projects around the house or yardwork.
Don loved the special times spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a caring husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, and two great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Mary, of the home in Phillipsburg; daughter, Cindy Harms & husband, Kelly, of Newton, KS; son, Rick & wife, Dawn, of Phillipsburg; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 21 at 10:00 a.m. in the United Methodist Church, Phillipsburg, with Rev. Lew VanDerWege officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.
Friends may sign the book from 9:00 to 9:00 Thursday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with the family receiving friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be given to the United Methodist Church.
