Donald Dean Fogleman, of Ottumwa, Iowa, passed away May 16, 2016, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
Don was born April 16, 1930, in Phillips County, Kansas. He graduated from Phillipsburg (Kansas) High School in 1949, then was called to serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He remained stateside throughout the conflict, stationed at Arlington, Virginia as part of the Army Security Agency. Upon his discharge from the service, Don returned to western Kansas and was married to Helen Steele on November 27, 1954.
Don spent most of his professional life in the oil industry, initially with Standard Oil Company in Kansas City, Missouri, before being promoted to field auditor and moving his family to Ottumwa, Iowa in December 1965. He spent more than 20 years with the company (which eventually became Amoco) and, after taking his retirement, continued as a business manager for local southeast Iowa oil jobbers and convenience stores until fully retiring in 2003.
Don was the long-time treasurer of the Ottumwa Shrine Club and was past director of the Shrine Clowns, where he enjoyed performing as his alter-ego "Fogie the Clown" at numerous parades around Iowa and other parts of the country. He was also a member of Empire Lodge #269, A.F. & A.M., in Ottumwa, as well as the Davenport Consistory and KAABA Shrine Temple in Davenport, Iowa; and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion in Ottumwa.
Don is survived by his wife, Helen, of the home; son Gregory V. Fogleman, of Montgomery City, Missouri; and son Daniel L. Fogleman
and his wife Tamrah, of Bella Vista, Arkansas; as well as four grandchildren, Dennis L. Fogleman and Scott M. Fogleman, both of Ankeny, Iowa, and Casey R. Fogleman and Trevor R. Fogleman, both of Bella Vista, Arkansas; great-granddaughter Darcy J. Denny, of Anita, Iowa; sister Bette Ruth Cantrell, of Verona, Mississippi, and her husband Royce Cantrell; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle Vivian Fogleman and Ida Ruth (Hodge) Fogleman and a sister, Mildred Jean Bradley.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Military services will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2016 in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg, KS, with Pastor Mark Gervais officiating.
