Obituary

Donald Leroy Munyon was born September 8, 1934 in Phillipsburg, KS, the only son of five children born to Roy and Grace (Frazer) Munyon.

Don attended Phillipsburg High School, graduating with the class of 1952. He participated in many activities in high school including football, basketball and track.

On June 20, 1954, he married his high school sweetheart, Gayle Frans. They were privileged to celebrate their Golden Anniversary in 2004. Don and Gayle were parents of three sons, Stanton Leroy born May 15, 1955; Robert Jay on July 13, 1957 and Lance Ryan on July 1, 1960.

Upon graduation he was employed by the railroad for several months before he purchased the family produce business. Around 1960, Don sold his share of the produce business to his father-in-law Lloyd Frans and went to work for CRA Inc. refinery where he worked in several capacities ending up as the refinery manager. He also managed the Phillips County Credit Union for several years during this time. In 1985, Don and Gayle moved to Thornton, CO where Don went to work for TIC as an estimator and general superintendent. In August 1998, the couple retired and moved back to Phillipsburg.

Don served his country in the National Guard for twenty years. He was also involved in the United Methodist Church serving on the council and working on several maintenance projects. He was active in the community serving on the Phillipsburg school board for seven years, coaching baseball and participating in the Phillipsburg Jaycees and Elks organizations.

As a couple, Don and Gayle enjoyed raising their three boys, playing bridge, gardening, and remodeling their homes. Later in life they enjoyed spoiling their grandsons, traveling, volunteering for the Thrift Shop and attending auctions.

Don and Gayle were loving and caring parents and grandparents and will be missed dearly.

Don is preceded in death by his parents and wife, two sisters, Doris Jacobs and Shirley Schultz, four brothers-in-law, Charles Jacobs, Nat Berney, Bernard Melton and Roger Schultz and a sister-in-law, Kay Becker.

He is survived by three sons, Stan and wife, Kim, of Phillipsburg; Bob and wife, Linda, of Glen Haven, California and Lance of Owasso, OK.; two sisters Lois Melton, Alma, NE and Betty Berney, Phillipsburg; four grandsons, Cory of Madison, MS; Luke of Tulsa, OK and Jake of Owasso, OK; Alex Beim and wife, Ketino of Lawrence, KS; one great-grandson, Alessandro Beim of Lawrence, KS; one sister-in-law, Linda Roth and husband, Neal of rural Phillipsburg; brother-in-law, Ron Becker, Logan, KS; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2012 in the United Methodist Church, Phillipsburg, with Rev. Gary Davison officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg, the casket will remain closed.

Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel.
