Donald Lee Suchsland, 82 years old, passed away peacefully at Downs Kansas Care and Rehabilitation on December 30th, 2020.
Don was born on July 11th, 1938 in Smith Center, Kansas, the only child of Merlyn and Stella (Gawart) Suchsland.
He graduated from Kensington High School with the class of 1956. Don was a proud member of the Marine Corps and served from 1956-1958. After honorable discharge, Don continued to participate in the Marine Corp League and the Kensington American Legion. On February 26, 1961 he was united in marriage with Janet Sargent at St. John Lutheran Church in Kensington, Kansas. To this union, three children were born (Mike, Kristi, and Dyann). The couple lived on their farm outside of Kensington, where Don was a farmer/rancher.
Don also enjoyed construction work, building and remodeling many homes and wood working as a hobby making many furniture projects for himself as well as family members. Don remained very active in his community as a Boy Scout and 4-H leader as well as an active member of St. John Lutheran Church. Don also loved hunting and was an instructor of the Hunter Safety Course for youth in Kensington for many years. Don especially enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling with his wife and friends. He attended numerous school and sporting events for his children and grandchildren. He loved going for coffee and visiting and never knew a stranger. Don continued to farm and enjoy wood working until his health declined.
Don is survived by his wife Janet of the farm home, one son Mike (De) Suchsland of Agra; two daughters Kristi (Vincent) Traffas of Manhattan and Dyann (Troy) Collins of Alma, Nebraska; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter, Jesi Gordon.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 Sat. & 12:00 to 9:00 Sun. with the family receiving friends from 4:00 to 5:00 Sunday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kensington American Legion or the Church.
