Doris Ilene Hammond was born June 5, 1922 in Norton County, KS, the daughter of John E. & Gladys Maria (Hall) Vincent. She passed away on October 4, 2023 at the Colonial Villa Nursing Home in Alma, NE at the age of 101.
She grew up in the Long Island area where she attended Liberty Country School and graduated from Long Island High School. On June 22, 1941, she was united in marriage to Ivan Dale "Mike" Hammond in Long Island & to this union, 4 sons were born: Gary, Tim, Craig & Mark.
The family lived in Nebraska for a few years before moving back to Long Island where they owned & operated Long Island Grain. Doris was the book keeper there for many years.
Doris was a member of the Long Island United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Ladies Auxiliary & the Homemaker's Club. Her hobbies included quilting, gardening & flowers. She had her own greenhouse where she spent many hours.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mildred Hunt & husband Charles, Blanche Dietz & husband Louis; her brother Eldon Vincent; sister-in-law Margaret Vincent; her nephew Brian Vincent & her husband Mike.
Survivors include her sons: Gary & wife Pat, Tim & wife Lynette, Craig & wife Cindy of Long Island, Mark & wife Stephanie of Windermere, FL; her grandchildren: Trevor (Shanna), Brandon (Amy), Brock (Jana), Brett (Shawna), Ashley (Ericka), Chase (Casey), Taylor, Greg (Caroline), Eric, Carson, Bridget (Jason) Bryant, Amanda (Lucas) Hooten, Tristan & Payton Vratil; great grandchildren: Makenna, Aidan, Owen, Ben, Simon, Vivian, Brooke, Kailey, Wyatt, Cole, Brenna, Ivan, Dillon, Easton, Braydon, Camdon & Braxton; her brother Dale of Long Island; sister-in-law, Arleta Vincent of Overland Park & a host of nieces, nephews & friends.
Cremation was chosen. A graveside service will be held Sat. October 14 at 3:30 p.m in the Long Island Cemetery with Pastor Ted Stapleton officiating. Following the service there will be a luncheon at the Long Island Methodist Church where the family will greet friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Long Island Community Building or the Alma Fire & Rescue.
