Obituary

Dorothy Elizabeth (Noffsinger) Detwiler, daughter of Lyle and Ruth (Galley) Noffsinger, passed away July 23, 2014 at her home at the age of 90.

She was born April 16, 1924 in Osborne County, Kansas, where she grew up and went to school, graduating from Osborne High School in1942. Following high school she attended Kansas State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. After college Dorothy worked as the County Extension Agent in Smith County.

On May 1, 1948 she married Dale Detwiler in Osborne, Kansas. The couple made their home on the farm south of Athol, operating a Grade A dairy and farming until 1972 when they moved into their current home in Kensington. Their union was blessed with four children: Linda Kaye, Milton Dale, Joyce Elaine, and Marcia Beth.

Dorothy was an active member of the United Church of Kensington. She joined her husband, Dale, in service of the Kensington Lions Club for over 50 years. The two of them organized and stocked the concession stand for the local youth baseball and softball games for many years.
Dorothy worked for the Kansas Department of Social Services as a Home Health Supervisor for many years, retiring in 1989. Following retirement she and Dale enjoyed several cruises, a trip to England, and a trip to Switzerland to visit relatives.

Being a devoted homemaker, Dorothy enjoyed cooking, baking, and sewing, teaching her children those same skills. She and Dale were rarely seen without each other, traveling many miles to attend their children and grandchildren's sporting events, music concerts, and 4-H and livestock shows.
