Dorothy Willene (Bradley) Zillinger was born December 11, 1931 to William & Catherine (Kate) Bradley on a farm 14 miles North of Agra, KS. She passed away on March 11, 2019 at the Logan Manor in Logan, KS at the age of 87 years & 3 months. She attended Simmons Rural School #38 until the 8th grade. She then attended the Agra Consolidated School for 3 years. The Simmons Country School had 15 students ranging from 1st through 8th grade. The students were all cousins except one. All the families in the community were related.
Dorothy & her 3 older brothers had to walk 2 miles to school. If the weather was stormy, her dad would take them with the horse & buggy. At the age of 16, she went to work at a café in Naponee, NE. At the age of 17, Dorothy went to Phillipsburg to babysit for a local family & also worked at the Northside Grocery Store.
Dorothy was baptized on August 21, 1949, in the St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Congregation.
On December 17, 1949, Dorothy married Arnold Zillinger at the St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Logan, KS. Their 1st home was an 18 foot trailer house where they lived for 8 months before moving into a 3 room apartment in the house on the Zillinger Family Farm.
On March 20, 1951, their 1st son, Steven Arnold, was born. On October 12, 1953, their 2nd son, Philip Wayne, was born.
Later on in life, Dorothy did painting & wallpapering for others, was very active in her church, & had a passion for tatting & quilting among other crafting. She was also a caregiver for Link & worked for Jill's Helping Hands for 35+ years. Dorothy retired at the age of 80.
Dorothy's hobbies included playing cards & gambling. She loved her yard & flowers & was quite a gardener. She was known for her potato salad & rhubarb pie. She was devoted to her faith & had great love for her family. Her laughter & smile were contagious.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold; her parents, Bill & Kate; 5 brothers, Wayne, Mark, Delmar, Lyle, & Harvey; and 2 sisters, Blanche, and Madge.
Survivors include her sons, Steve Zillinger & wife Kay, of Grand Junction, CO, & Philip & wife, Lea, of Logan, KS; 5 grandchildren, Anthony & wife, Jennifer, of Oberlin, KS; Amanda Carroll & husband, Ryan, of UT; Mandy Goble & husband, Steve, of Logan, KS; Anna Graham & husband, Layne, of Norton, KS; and, Amy Medrud of Hays, KS; 11 great-grandchildren, Adam, A.J., & Jenna, of Oberlin, KS; Jaxson, Charlotte, & Baby Carroll, of UT; Trevor Schmidt & friend, Brooke Peterson, of Hays, KS; Morgan Goble & fiancé, Riley Nyp, of Plainville, KS; Dawson Goble of Logan, KS; and Wyatt & Laynee Graham, of Norton, KS; 1 great great-grandchild, Tinley Schmidt, of Hays, KS; 2 sisters-in-law, Kate Donavan, of Stanberry, MO; and Clara Cox, of CA; and a host of nieces & nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sat. March 16 at 2:00 p.m. in the Logan Christian Church with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan.
Visitation will be from 12:00 to 9:00 Thursday and Friday at the Logan Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday.
