Douglas W. Case, 67, passed away unexpectedly on June 13, 2017, in Phillipsburg, KS. He was born May 3, 1950, in Phillipsburg to Ralph and Arlene Miller Case. He attended schools in Arvada, CO, and Phillipsburg, graduating in 1968 from Phillipsburg High School. He attended Denver Airline School and North West Kansas Technical College, Goodland, KS, completing his certificate in 1971. He then entered the United States Navy in November of 1971 and was honorably discharged in November of 1975. Later he started work for Hirschfield Press in Denver, CO, as a journeyman book binder, working there for many years. Mr. Case also worked construction in the Phillipsburg area, was a mechanic for a rock quarry in Golden, CO, and was employed as a mechanic for various other employers. He retired and moved to Agra, KS in 2010, then moved to Phillipsburg in 2015.
Doug enjoyed hunting, camping, photography and 1840 reenactment rendezvous. He loved his family and spending time with them. He was a true character who was fun-loving, generous and adored by his nieces and nephew as well as his great nieces and great nephew. He was a member of the Borderline Gun Club and the American Legion Post 103, Greensburg, KS.
Survivors include two brothers; Jon (Margarita) of Batesville, IN and Michael (Jan) of Greensburg, KS, two uncles: James I. Miller (Joanne) of Phillipsburg and James Usrey of Sierra Vista, AZ; two aunts: Goldie DeWild of Arvada, CO, and Dorothea Miller of Hominy, OK. Nieces: Erica and Katie Case, Valerie (Philip) Back, Bethany (Micah) Wood and nephew, Barrett (Meghann) Case; great nieces Diamond, Jasmine, Elly and Hannah Wood and great nephew Silas Wood, along with Doug's life-long friend, Kent Butterfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gary L. Case.
Services will be Friday, July 7, at 10:30 a.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with Pastor Barrett Case officiating. Family visitation will be Thursday, July 6 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the chapel. Inurnment, with military rites, will be at the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg, immediately following the service.
