Obituary

Douglas Wayne Edgett, only child of Walter & Argie (Weaver) Edgett, was born May 23, 1921 on a farm southwest of Logan, Kansas and died November 3, 2011 at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg, Kansas at the age of 90.

He was raised on the farm near Logan and attended the Champlin Hill country school through 8th grade, then graduated from Logan High School with the class of 1940.

After graduation Doug worked for the D.G. Hansen Construction Company until joining the Army and serving from 1942–1945, mostly in the South Pacific.

After his honorable discharge from the military, he returned to Phillips County and went to work at the Coop Refinery. On January 13, 1946, he was united in marriage to Helen Ann Jaenicke Kinter in the Christian Church parsonage in Phillipsburg, Kansas. Although the couple never had children, they enjoyed a loving partnership and friendship that lasted for 55 years. They loved big band music, dancing, playing cards and traveling.

Doug retired from the refinery in 1984, after 30 ½ years of loyal service. The couple then moved to Twin Falls, Idaho for several years, spending their winters in Arizona and then traveling back to Idaho in the spring. In 1996 they sold their mobile home in Arizona and moved to Salina, Kansas for six years. They moved back to Phillipsburg in 2001, where they spent their final months together before Helen's death on November 1, 2001.

Some of Doug's favorite times were spent fishing, camping & boating, and playing cards or Bingo with friends.

In addition to his wife, Helen, his parents, Walter & Argie, preceded him in death. Family survivors include a few cousins.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 7, at 2:00 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Rev. Gary Davison officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Visitation will be Saturday & Sunday from noon – 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
