Doyle (Tony) Francis Stanton was born in Logan, Kansas, on May 5, 1939, to Wilbur and Della (Ashley) Stanton. He passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at the Phillips County Retirement Center at the age of 79.
Tony married Dorothy Paramore on April 9, 1961, at the United Methodist Church in Phillipsburg, Kansas. They lived in Logan for nearly 30 years before moving to Phillipsburg in 1991.
He graduated from Logan High School with the Class of 1957. He was very proud of his attendance at and support of Logan High School, as he only missed two Alumni celebrations in the last 61 years. After graduation he worked four years for D.G. Hansen Construction. In 1961 he went to work for Winchell's in Phillipsburg. In 1962 he was offered a job with the Logan Farmers Union Coop. In 1968 Tony was made manager of the Speed branch and retired in 1991. After moving to Phillipsburg, he went to work for Leonard Ford Motor and could sell a vehicle to anyone, even if they weren't in the mood to buy a vehicle. He was a charter member of the Logan Lions Club and continued to be an active member for 20 years. Tony was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 281, the Phillipsburg United Methodist Church and local Neighborhood watch.
Tony didn't know a stranger. He always had a story to tell, and the story grew bigger each time he told it. Tony loved to share his enjoyment of hunting, fishing and sports; keep a well-manicured lawn and share vegetables from his garden with his neighbors and study the local weather. Tony always looked forward to spending time with family, and most of all, his grandchildren. His love for family will be passed on from generation to generation.
Tony is survived by daughter, Deb Kennedy and husband, Nick of Phillipsburg; son, Todd Stanton and wife, Tracey of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Garrett and wife, Arissa, Cody, and Wade Kennedy, and Thomas, Ann-Catherine, and Bennett Stanton. He is also survived by all of his siblings: Darrell Stanton, Echo Krouse, Delbert Stanton, Elaine Holloway, Ann Siler and Mike Stanton.
Tony is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy and parents, Wilbur and Della (Ashley) Stanton.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 2:00 p.m. in the United Methodist Church, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Blake Stanwood and Rev. Delbert Stanton officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan.
Mr. Stanton will lie in-state on Sunday from 5 – 9 p.m. and again Monday from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel in Phillipsburg, where the family will receive friends Monday evening from 7 – 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Phillips County Health Care Foundation.
